The Copper Canyon Brewery Presents Shillelagh Stout

Shillelagh Stout

This beer is named for an Irish walking stick, or the feeling you get

from being hit by one. That’s what this beer will do for you. It is a

stronger (7.5% abv) oatmeal stout with cocoa added to enhance

the chocolate flavor even more. This beer is smooth and silky

, with a pronounced chocolate flavor. It is not very hoppy, and is

served with a Nitrogen gas push for that creamy texture. I call this

a “Todd Stout” in that it is too strong for an oatmeal stout, too

weak and not hoppy enough for an imperial stout, and too sweet

 for a foreign export stout.

Food Pairings: this beer goes well with heavier dishes like the ribs or a

steak and also goes well with dessert.

MBG Winter Beer Festival – 2010

Another successful Michigan Brewers Guild Winter Beer Festival has come to an end.  Over 200 delicious beers to sample kept 5,000 people from even noticing the fact that it was still February.  I was able to collect several good interviews and I will post those to our Podcast section as soon as they are ready.  I posted Round One of our pix on our Facebook Fan Page.  A special “thanks” goes out to the Michigan Brewers Guild, the organizers, Fifth Third Ballpark, the breweries, the brewers, the servers and all those who worked so hard behind the scenes to make this such a special event.

Here’s Round Two of our pictures.  Enjoy:

Copper Canyon Brewery Presents Heidrun

New Beer

Heidrun

Heidrun is a goat from Norse mythology that inhabits Valhalla

(Norse heaven), and from its udders springs beer (other reports

have mead- beer works better in our case). This beer is my take

on a Finnish Sahti, which some argue is the oldest continually

fermented beverage. Traditionally, they are brewed with juniper

boughs and rye malt, with other botanicals thrown in here and

there. This beer has rye, oatmeal, juniper, caraway, honey, and

black and white pepper. This beer has a rich malty character

with spicy counterpoints. The hops are very subtle, it rings in at

 about 7.3% abv.

Food Pairings: this beer goes well with rich meaty dishes like the ribs.
