Reminder
Feb 5
It has been a busy month for us here at CBL. We hosted two release parties in January as part of our launch. The west Michigan edition of our party was held at the Radisson Plaza Hotel Kalamazoo on January 13. It was sponsored by the Michigan Brewers Guild who kindly arranged for our use of the Stone Theater in the Radisson. Imperial Beverage of Kalamazoo provided us with a fine assortment of craft beers. Many of the Michigan breweries were represented along with others in the Michigan beer industry and some members of the local media. All eyes were on the projector as Craig, Al and I presented the features of the site. Our presentation was followed by some rather spirited Q & A which provided us with some very valuable feedback. The rest of the evening was spent enjoying some Michigan craft brews and some craft conversation. We did it all over again a week later. This time at Liberty Street Brewing in Plymouth, MI. Our guests at Liberty included several local area beer stores interested in how CBL can help them sell more craft beer. Both events were a huge success. We are adding more beers and locations to our database every day, and the number of registered beer explorers is growing daily as well. If you have not yet done so, join the fun and sign up as a beer explorer.

Our database still has a lot of growing to do, so please hang in there with us. Well now its time to gear up for our first release party next week in Kalamazoo, MI. Thanks to all who have been supporting us along the way, and happy beer exploring to all. -Niko
My Head is Spinning….
Dec 30
WOW. My head is spinning. Things are moving so fast. We are making last minute changes to get the site ready for release in 2 weeks. We look like we are not going to make it but deep in my beer gut I know we will pull it off. I have so many things to do to get everything ready to go and I know Craig and Niko are brewing (coffee) as much as I am. This is going to be great. I can’t wait until we are actually live.
I guess my little break is now over. Time to get back to the open checklist items and get this show on the road!!! I look forward to all of you seeing all of our efforts.

Two years ago I had the idea of building a beer locator that actually worked. I had no idea how to start, where to start, or how to do it. I had no concept of what the finished project would look like, I just knew there was a need for this.
In my travels, I was tired of locating brewpubs on some beer site only to find out it closed two years ago. I also would read articles or blogs on specific beers that made me get in my car and drive all over town trying to find them only to return home empty-handed.
Since the journey started, Al McKay and Niko Solomos have worked tirelessly with me on this project and I don’t know how to thank them. With so many other projects in our lives (homes, family, our jobs, etc.), spare time is always a premium. So, to give up any of this valuable time on “an idea” was a huge leap of faith on their behalf!
I truly believe that www.craftbeerlocator.com will bring together the brewers, the beer stores, the tap rooms, even restaurants that carry craft beer, with the beer enthusiasts (we call them Beer Explorers). We will continue to add features as we move forward.
What we would like to ask from you is this: Please sign up as a Beer Explorer. After our official launch in early January of 2010, this will allow full access to the sites many features:
- Your own Beer Log with access to your friend’s Beer Log too
- Find that special beer you’re looking for
- Create your own Beer Expedition, complete with designated driver coupons and turn-by-turn directions
- Access to the calender of beer-related events
- Listen to beer podcast and, if you’re interested in brewing your own beer, you can do that too
- Access our massive list of beer-related sites
- Don’t see your favorite beer or location? Let us know. We’ll build this together!
We have many other features on our ‘to do” list, but that leads me to one more thing we will ask of you: Patience! We will continue to grow our site and add new features as time allows. Thank you for coming along for the ride!

Follow along as we add new and improved features to Craft Beer Locator. My plate is always full and just as soon as I get something cleared off, Craig and Niko are piling something else on it. It’s a wonder anything gets accomplished around here. What a way to run a brewery….
